Cheese in Hambagu (Japanese Hamburger Steak) チーズインハンバーグ
1. Sauté the diced onions and combine them with all the ingredients (except for the cheese).
2. Divide the mixture into four equal portions.
3. Put cheese in the centre of one portion of the meat mixture, then cover it with another portion. Then shape it into an oval patty. Toss the patty between two hands to remove the air inside.
4. Fry both sides of the patties till browned. Around 3 minutes each side. Then add 5 tablespoons of water into the pan, cover the pan with a lid. Steam cook the patties for 5 minutes.
Making the sauce:
1. Once the hambagu steaks are cooked, remove them from the pan.
2. Combine the remaining juice with the sauce ingredients; mix well and bring it to a simmer on medium heat.
✨ To test if the patties are cooked, insert a toothpick and clear juice means it’s done.
✨ Serve with rice 🍚
✨ You can make four small hambagu or two big hambagu with this recipe. Smaller size is great for bento (lunchboxes).
