Ingredients pork beef slices, potatoes, carrot, onion, ito konnyaku, yam noodles. dashi, soy sauce, sake, mirin, sugar, snap peas, mangetout peas. green beans

Nikujaga (Meat & Potato Stew) 肉じゃが


1. Slice the onion. Cut the potatoes and carrot into equal sized chunks. Soak the potato chunks in water to remove excess starch.


2. Cut the itokonnyaku into three parts then boil in water for a minute to remove any unwanted smell.


3. Sauté the onion, then add the carrot chunks, potato chunks, and Itokonnyaku.


4. Add dashi and bring to boil. Once boiled, add the pork/ beef and the seasonings. Cover the pot and simmer for 15 minutes or till the potatoes are cooked.


(Optional garnish) Blanch 3-4 snap peas/ mangetout/ green beans. Cut them diagonally into half.
